What is an IP Address Number ?
An IP Address Number is a unique set of numbers (Eg. 64.58.76.228) assigned to a particular computer unit
that is connected to the Internet. All computer units that are connected to the Internet have a corresponding

a domain name can be assigned to a particular IP Address
Number for convenience and ease of recalling (Eg. WWW.YAHOO.COM

What is Domain Name Registration ?
Domain Name Registration is the act of registering /
securing / getting a particular domain name under one's
ownership rights for a certain period of time. It is
somewhat similar to the principle of registering / securing
/ getting a business name registered with the Department
of Trade and Industry (DTI) or Securities and Exchange
Commission (SEC).
What are the different Classes of Domain Names ?
Among the different classes of domain names existing
today, there are currently Two (2) popular classes.
These are the GTL Domain Names and CTL Domain Names.
What is a GTL Domain Name ?
A GTL Domain Name or Global Top Level Domain Name is
a domain name that ends with a .com | .net | .org .
What is a CTL Domain Name ?
A CTL Domain Name or Country Top Level Domain Name is
a domain name that ends in the official Country Code
of a particular country. For the Philippines, a CTL
Domain Name ends with a .ph | .com.ph | .net.ph | .org.ph .
What is the difference between a GTL Domain and CTL Domain ?
In terms of domain name function and use, there is no
technical difference between a GTL Domain Name and a
CTL Domain Name. Both will function as a worldwide domain
name and will be useable under any web | email | database
hosting environment.
In terms of domain name registration fee, a CTL Domain
Name is more expensive than a GTL Domain Name. In addition,
a CTL Domain Name must be initially registered for a
period of Two (2) years while a GTL Domain Name can
be initially registered for a period of One (1) year.
What are the Requirements to Register a Domain Name ?
There are NO documents required to register a domain name
under the CTL Domain Name Class and GTL Domain
Name Class.
Providing the following information on a Domain Name
Registration Form will be sufficient to register a domain
name, as follows:
i. The domain name being registered;
ii. The name, postal address, physical address, e-mail
address, voice telephone number, and where available,
fax number of the domain registrant for the domain name;
iii. The name, postal address, physical address, e-mail
address, voice telephone number, and where available,
fax number of the billing contact for the domain name; and
iv. The primary and secondary domain name server information
to be used on the domain name being registered.
Who owns the Domain Name upon Registration ?
All registered Domain Names are owned by the Internet
Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN).
Registering a Domain Name only accords the Nameholder
the right to use and delegate such domain name for a
period that has been subscribed / registered.
The right to use and delegate such domain name immediately
ceases upon expiration of the period subscribed / registered
by the Nameholder, unless renewed, the domain name will
again be available for registration to any other prospective
/ interested Nameholder.
